Hiya Booklovers! We've come to the end of another year! And boy oh boy, it's been a bloody weird one... I hope you've had a safe & enjoyable holiday period and are ready to welcome in the new year. I hope you've also had a really great reading year - we've certainly had enough time to dedicate to reading! Despite all this time, I definitely have not read as many books as I wanted to, but what I have read has been pretty darn good! So to recap my year of reading, I'll be once again doing Perpetual Page-Turner's '2020 end of year book survey.' Go check out Jamie's blog as it's fantastic! So, without further ado, let's get started! Number Of Books You Read: 19 Number Of Re-Reads: 0 Number of Series Finished: 0 Number of Pages Read: 4,470 Genre You Read The Most From: Romance 1. Best Book You Read In 2020? The books I read this year were all fantastic books - nothing was below a 3.5 rating. So choosing the best book I read this year is pretty hard. 2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn't? As I said, there was only one book that had a 3.5 star rating, and that was Looking To Score by CoraLee June and Carrie Gray. I'm a massive romance fan, and having read and enjoyed a book by CoraLee before, I was really excited for this one, especially since it was a sports romance. While it wasn't a terrible read, it just didn't live up to expectations or the potential it had. 3. Most Surprising Book You Read There wasn't really a surprising read for me this year. Clearly I need to up my reading game! 4. Book You "Pushed" The Most People To Read (And They Did)? I was super slack with pushing books on people - I promise that in 2021 I'm going to force you ALL to read all the books! 5. Best: 6. Favourite new author you discovered in 2020? I really enjoyed all the new authors I read this year, but I think my favourite was Meghan Quinn! I really enjoyed The Locker Room and have been meaning to dive into some of her other books. 7. Best Book From a Genre You Don't Typically Read/Was Out Of Your Comfort Zone? Literally every book I read this year was a romance, with only one exception - Azaria: A True History by Maree Coote, which is a children's non-fiction. I 1000% recommend checking this book out if you haven't already! And just because it's a children's book, doesn't mean that anyone of any age can't pick it up and enjoy it! 8. Most Action-Packed/Thrilling/Unputdownable Book Of The Year? 1000% was Playboy Princes by Jaymin Eve & Tate James! I could not get enough of this book and was so annoyed when it came to an end and I had to wait for book three. Granted, I've still not read the third book, but still. 9. Book You Read In 2020 That You Would Be MOST Likely To Re-Read Next Year? All of them? Ya'll know I'm a sucker for re-reading books, so I'd totally re-read any of them. But if we're just picking one, it would definitely be The Girl Next Door by Emma Hart. 10. Favourite cover of a book you read in 2020? 11. Most memorable character of 2020? I literally have no idea. I loved Rafe from Princess Ballot by Jaymin Eve & Tate James, and 12. Most beautifully written book read in 2020? Hands-down has to be Azaria: A True History. It wasn't just beautifully written but the artwork was beautiful too! 13. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2020 to finally read Pretty much all the books I read this year were 2020 releases... 14. Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2020? 15. OTP OF THE YEAR Rafe/Violet/Jordan from Playboy Princes. They weren't even an official thing, but I will go down with the ship! 16. Favourite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year I really enjoyed all of the friendship that Emma Hart wrote in her books - she knows how to write great friend groups that you just want to be a part of! 17. Favourite Book You Read in 2020 From An Author You’ve Read Previously Tough one! I loved all of Emma Hart and Rebecca Jenshak's books that I read this year! 18. Best 2020 debut you read? Of all the 2020 releases I've read, there's only been on debut, and it was my lowest rated book... 19. Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year? I think this honour goes to Playboy Princes! I really enjoyed learning about the world in this trilogy. 20. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read? Honestly, any of the Emma Hart and Rebecca Jenshak's books that I read this year. In particular Frenemies, Hot Mess and Sweet Spot. 21. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2020? Ya'll know I cry in almost any book I read - happy tears, sad tears, angry tears. You name it. So I guarantee that for most of the books I read this year, I probably shed a tear or two. 22. Hidden Gem Of The Year? Tough one! But I'll give a shout out to a book I've not yet mentioned - Chicks, Man by J.D. Hollyfield! This was a fun new adult romance that definitely deserves some more love! 23. Book That Crushed Your Soul? You know what, my soul remains intact this year. Which is probably a good thing since the year itself has been a crazy one. I didn't need a book crushing me on top of all that. 24. Most Unique Book You Read In 2020? Probably Azaria: A True History. It's not even overly unique, but compared to every other book I read this year, it was a refreshing change. 25. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)? Looking To Score - as I said, it didn't live up to expectations, and it had so much potential that it didn't tap into. There were elements of the story that could have been tackled so much better, and that frustrated me. 1. New favourite book blog/Bookstagram/Youtube channel you discovered in 2020? Once again, I was super slack on the 'checking out other bookish creators' front - whoops! 2. Favourite post you wrote in 2020? Pretty much all the posts I wrote this year were reviews, and I don't even really have a favourite review - they're all good so scroll back and read them! 3. Favourite bookish related photo you took in 2020? 4. Best bookish event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, etc.)? Obviously with the pandemic, there weren't too many events this year, but I was able to attend the virtual launch of You Were Made For Me by Jenna Guillaume! It was super fun hanging out with Jenna and Danielle Binks, as well as fellow book lovers. 5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2020? I don't really have one? I can't think of anything anyway... 6. Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year? Finding the motivation to read. For a year with lots of extra time to read, I really slacked off. It's not that I've not wanted to read, it's just that I do other things instead of reading - I'm scrolling through TikTok before bed instead of reading a few pages. 7. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog? I think it was my annual birthday post: '25 Book Recommendations'. 8. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love? I'm going to say all of them - I read some great books this year so you definitely need to go back and read the reviews! 9. Best bookish discovery (book related sites, book stores, etc.)? Didn't really discover anything new this year... 10. Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year? Yeah, no. Not even close. Whoops. 1. One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2020 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2021? Okay, I technically did start this and got halfway through but just didn't keep reading. And it's not that it wasn't good - I was really enjoying it - but life just got in the way and I didn't pick it up again. This chunky bad boy WILL get finished in 2021! 2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2020 (non-debut)? I've been waiting for this bad boy for what feels like FOREVER. Can't wait for a new gorey and smutty fantasy from Mister Kristoff! 3. 2020 Debut You Are Most Anticipating? 4. Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2021? Bring on a new ACOTAR book and Nessian's story! I've been anxiously anticipating this book since the teaser in ACOFAS, so I can't believe it's nearly here! 5. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2021?
Just to read more! I want to make sure reading becomes part of my daily routine rather than continually putting it off like I have been. And that's a wrap on 2020! Here's to 2021 being an even better reading year with even more amazing book read and released! I hope 2020 has been good to you reading-wise and that you're ready to dive into the New Year with an amazing TBR ahead of you! Happy New Years! Victoria :) |
