Author: Rebecca Jenshak Genre: NA Romance Pages: 287 Released: 28 May 2020 Lincoln Reeves may be a pro golfer and revered swing coach, but when I meet him, he is just one more person telling me I’m not good enough. So, I do what any girl in my position would do. I tell him to get lost and take his arrogant, annoying smirk with him. I never expect to see him again. I certainly don’t expect to run into him that same night after one too many tequila shots. Turns out that he’s kind of a big deal. Okay, fine, a really big deal. In fact, he might be the one person who can take my game to the next level. Convincing him to help will be difficult. Not throwing my club at his handsome face when he makes me work harder than I thought humanly possible will be excruciating. But not falling for him will be the hardest thing of all. I was kindly sent a copy of this book for review from Wildfire Marketing Solutions in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Who knew learning to play golf could be so sexy...
Keira Brooks is determined to get back on her college's tournament golf team, but with a dick of a coach, it's proving difficult, especially when she sees the guys team having a swing clinic and not the girls. What she doesn't realise is that Lincoln Reeves is a mega pro who knows what he's doing and runs his own coaching business, and that the tips he gives after seeing her practice are ones she should actually take on board. With the determination to show her actual coach that she's worthy of a chance to play in tournaments again, she asks Lincoln to coach her since he's actually shown some interest in helping her improve. With Lincoln in her corner, she finally feels like she has a chance to take on the world of pro golf. What's more, he's not that bad to look at, which helps make their nightly video chats and training a little easier. But with a failed marriage because of his dedication to his business, Lincoln knows he can't hurt Keira or hold her back from all that she can achieve. If only their hearts knew there was a line they shouldn't cross... Firstly, who knew golf could be so much fun to read about! And that I'd actually know the terminology - I think I have Wii Sports to thank for that. When you think sports romance, you tend to zero in on football/soccer, basketball and baseball, so it was nice to see the outlier of golf take center stage. Not only that, but it was awesome to see the female lead as the sports star as opposed to the male lead like in a majority of sports romances. Not that I've read a tonne of sports romance, but it was refreshing to see the female lead be sporty and have the same determination you see in sporty male leads. Keira and Lincoln had such a fun relationship and I really enjoyed seeing it develop throughout the book. There's nothing like a bit of a flirty slow-burn with some angst thrown in to really draw it out. Add a dash of feisty grandmother and some tequila and you've got yourself a pretty damn good college romance, with a side of golf. I loved that this book is part of the Valley U world, which was established in the Smart Jocks series, which I read last year. This is a standalone so you don't need to have read the series, but it was so fun to see the little references that Rebecca scattered throughout the book, plus getting to see one of the characters from the series. There's also a few characters in this book that totally need their own books, so I hope Rebecca continues to expand on the Valley U world, because I can totally get behind that! I'm just a sucker for sports romance it seems! If you're a sports romance fan too, or just a romance lover in general, you definitely need to put this book on your TBR ASAP! |
