Author: Carrie Gray & CoraLee June Genre: New Adult Romance Pages: 250 Released: 30 April 2020 He’s like literally the worst. Oakley Davis is the star running back at our University, and the reason I’ve broken my vow to avoid the college party scene. Thanks to a mixup with my advisor, I’m now serving my Public Relations internship as a glorified babysitter to the party-hard football players. Specifically, Oakley. He’s impossible to manage. His Instagram is full of half-naked, drunk photos and he’d rather attend parties than practice. His brand needs some serious work, and when he’s not driving me insane, he’s sleeping his way through the entire female population. But I’m determined. I have plans to graduate a semester early and nothing or no one will get in my way. I’m a Virgo, after all. Oakley Davis might be a privileged, cocky, football star, but I’m Amanda Matthews; and I’ll do whatever it takes to get my A. I have to make sure I don’t end up falling in love with the idiot, first. I was kindly sent a copy of this book for review from Wildfire Marketing Solutions in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. A swoony college romance about leaving the past behind and getting that second chance...
Escaping the ghosts of her past in California, Amanda has spent the summer is Austin cramming in the hours in order to graduate early. Now that school has officially started, it’s time for her PR internship. But with her late arrival at the university, her desired internship isn’t available, and the only option left is to be the one to makeover the star footballer’s image and reputation. Oakley is the biggest player on campus, out every night getting drunk and partying while sleeping his way through the entire female population in the Bible belt of Texas. He’s the last person Amanda wants to follow around and babysit, but if she wants to graduate early like she planned, she’ll have to suck it up and do it. But Oakley’s world is exactly the one she left behind and didn’t want to fall back into, and he’s stubborn to boot, meaning this isn’t going to be an easy task. Oh, and he’s hot AF, which is a problem all on its own... I knew as soon as I started reading the synopsis that this was going to be a good read! There’s just something about college sports romances that really hits the spot – maybe it’s the hot shirtless guy on the cover, who knows! But I really enjoyed Amanda and Oakley’s story and the development of their relationship. It was cute, funny and swoon-worthy, which is always the perfect mix when it comes to new adult romance! An interesting quirk that had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions was Amanda’s many different names for anything sexual, from what she called her own lady parts to how she described Oakley. It was odd at times, but it kind of fitted with her character, especially since she had some weird/different sayings as well. The one thing I felt could have been handled slightly differently was Amanda’s borderline eating disorder. It was an interesting aspect of her character to explore, but I felt that it was kind of brushed under the rug, especially since she seemed to stress about eating less as her relationship with Oakley developed – like getting a man was the easy fix. I felt there was potential with this part of Amanda’s story, but it didn’t get explored/dealt with as well as it could have. Overall, this was a read that I absolutely devoured on a lazy Sunday, and I’m kind of hoping we get a book following Oakley’s teammate Dale, because he was just the right amount of intriguing to have me interested in seeing more. But, I’d totally be happy with whatever Carrie and CoraLee have planned next – they’re a great writing duo and I hope this is the start of many more co-authored works! I’m also excited to see what solo projects Carrie has in the works since this was her debut release! If you’re like me and LOVE a good college sports romance, you’ll definitely enjoy this read! |
