Author: Rebecca Jenshak Genre: Romance Pages: 289 Released: 28 June 2020 Series: Cocky Hero Club He was someone who belonged on the cover of Sports Illustrated instead of in my small beach town. A sexy, cocky Australian soccer star named Finn was the last person I expected to be living with for two weeks. He showed up at my brother’s house on his wedding night, hot, drunk, and very much not married. Next thing I knew, we were roommates, spending nights watching TV and getting to know one another. Those two weeks turned into more than either of us bargained for. He was fresh off a broken heart and I had a boyfriend. I wasn’t supposed to fall for the jilted jock, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways. All good things must come to an end, right? Except he’s not letting me go without a fight. I was kindly sent a copy of this book for review from Give Me Books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. A heartbroken soccer star with a cute af kitten moving in for a week or two? Yep, that's a recipe for sparks to fly!
They're the golden couple - the Posh & Becks of LA - and it's finally their big day. But just as he's about to stand at the alter and wait for his bride to walk down the aisle, Aussie soccer star Finn McCash finds out that his fiance has called off the wedding to run-off with one of his teammates on his honeymoon. Crashing with fellow Aussie in LA Chance Bateman and his wife Aubrey, he meets Chance's sister Adele, who ends up offering him and his newly acquired kitten a place to stay for two weeks until he can find his own apartment. Adele and Finn are from two different worlds, and for the majority of the two weeks, they're like ships in the night with their two different lives. But as they bond over the kitten, there's a connect that can't be denied, even by Adele, who's in a long-distance relationship. A recovering addict with some horrors in her past, Adele has always kept in safe in case something triggers and and she slips, and the guys she's been with have been safe too, but Finn makes her want to step out of the bubble she's trapped herself in. It could be the greatest thing she's ever done, or she could be hurt worse than before. I was just generally excited for a new novel from Rebecca, but when it was also revealed to be part off the Cocky Hero Club collection, I was SO excited to dive in! AND, although I haven't read Chance's book (Cocky Bastard by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward aka the creators of the Cocky Hero world), I have read another Cocky Hero book with ties to Chance, Lucky Bastard by Kaylee Ryan, so it was so cool to see him pop up here! Finn and Adele's relationship with super cute, and I do have to say I'm a sucker for the whole "turns out the guy I've been dating for years is actually really boring and doesn't understand what I want in life, but this guy I just met sees me for who I really am and is perfect for me" kind of thing. It's a trope straight out of a Hallmark film, and I just couldn't get enough of it here! The road to a relationship is a bumpy one for these two, and there was certainly heartbreak and tears along the way (the latter also me because I cry in like every romance book I read). Although told from both Finn and Adele's perspectives, the first half of the book is told from Adele's POV and then a majority of the second half of the book is told from Finn's POV. From what I've seen, this is how Vi and Penelope told Cocky Bastard so it makes sense for Rebecca to have also used this format as inspiration, but it did throw me a little since I'm used to POV's alternating a little more. And while I would have LOVED to see some moments from Finn's perspective in the beginning,I still really enjoyed how the story was structured with how the perspectives did alternate. I'm just a sucker for getting inside both of our leading character's heads! Somewhere know where there's a soccer star with a kitten in need of a place to stay for a couple of weeks? Asking for a friend... I think need Cocky Bastard before I dive into another Cocky Hero Club novel and find Chance featured there too! Luckily, you don't need to have read any of the novels from Vi and Penelope's original stand-alone series to dive into any of the books in this collection. You just need to be a romance fan and you'll absolutely devour this book, and any of the other books in the Cocky Hero world! |
