I was kindly sent a copy of this book for review from Give Me Books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. A cute and swoony sports romance that'll have you booking a flight to visit the Hermosa Beach Trojans!
Emma Deaton tags along with bestie Aubrey as they attended the Trojan's family training day, going along to support Aubrey's husband and new kicking coach Chance. Naturally, she turns some heads when she eventually makes it on the field, QB Landon Barker being one of them. As much as Emma knows that a night in the sheets with the star Quarterback would be an amazing experience, she's not a random hook-ups kind of girl, so immediately turns Landon down when he asks her out. Landon sees the spark of interest in her eye and won't take no for an answer. But it's not just about getting the girl for one night - Landon is soon just enjoying spending time with Emma and making her laugh. He just has to prove to her that he's not the player the tabloids make him out to be and that she's everything he hadn't wanted until now. I'm apparently now a sucker for a good sports romance! I've mentioned this before, but I don't know what it is that just sucks me into these stories - I literally just start reading and then suddenly I'm three-quarters of the way through the book! Emma and Landon's relationship with so swoon-worthy and cute and I really enjoyed following the build-up throughout the story. While I wouldn't call it a slow build, the pacing was a nice change from the 'it's chapter three and we're in a relationship' thing you get with a lot of romances (not that that's a bad thing though!) It was the perfect amount of cute, sweet and steamy! The one thing that was a little bummed about was the ending. Not that the ending of the book wasn't great (I love a good epilogue!), but I felt like everything in the last few chapters was wrapped up a bit too quickly. And since there wasn't a great deal of relationship conflict in the story (you know, one of those big misunderstandings that breaks them up for like three chapters), it felt like it was just missing a little something to really push it over the edge. But overall, it was super enjoyable and now I need some more Hermosa Beach Trojan romances to binge! Speaking of more Trojan romances, I really loved seeing glimpses of Aubrey and Chance's relationship - their story in Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland's Cocky Bastard is part of the foundation of the world for the Cocky Hero Club novels being released over the next couple of months. I've not read it yet, but you can bet I'm chomping at the bit to dive in! Sports romance fans and fans of Penelope and Vi's novels will LOVE diving into Kaylee's story. No doubt you'll be left wanting to book a flight to LA to find your own Hermosa Beach Trojan to fall madly in love with! |
