Author: Emma Hart Genre: Romance Pages: 199 Released: 13 March 2018 Series: The Experiment #1 1.Hate-screw my high school nemesis. 2.Remember to hate him. 3.Prove my brother wrong. It should be easy. It isn’t. As the owner of Pick-A-D*ck, New Orleans’ premier hook-up website, my job is simple. Connect two people for a no-strings, no-expectations hook-up. The plus for my clients is that I’m the one who gets to sift through the d*ck pics—except this time, they're required. My problem? My brother, co-owner of Pick-A-D*ck’s sister dating site, doesn’t believe it’s possible to hook up with someone three times and not fall in love. I disagree. I know it’s possible. And my disagreement is exactly how I end up reconnected with my high school nemesis, Elliott Sloane. The guy who asked me to junior prom and then stood me up. Who egged my car when I rejected him, and convinced my senior homecoming date to ghost me. It should be easy to hate-screw him. If only he was still that person, instead of a hot-as-hell single dad, working as a builder to make ends’ meet, fighting for custody of his daughter. Three hook-ups. One outcome. Right? Romance, comedy and a $500 bet - sounds like the perfect read.
When Dominic bets his sister Peyton that someone can't sleep with someone three time without falling in love, Peyton is quick to take up the challenge, knowing that she'll be $500 richer at the end of two weeks. Her two friends, Mellie and Chloe, take on the task of picking the guy she's to hook-up with from her hook-up site 'Pick-A-D*ck', and they think they've found the perfect guy. Only, it turns out to be Elliot Sloane, the guy who crushed Peyton in high school and the guy she's been hating for the last ten years. Suddenly, this whole challenge seems easy - how could she fall in love with someone she hates? But when she starts to learn more about Elliot's life and the what really happened back in high school, feelings begin to bubble below the surface, and all of a sudden the challenge gets a lot harder than she anticipated (pun totally intended). After reading The Upside of Being Single, which is the precursor to this duology, I was excited to delve into Peyton's story. And I can't believe it's taken me so long to get here! Like Upside, this is a fun romantic comedy that has a good mix of laughs, romance and serious stuff. It's a book that you can totally envision being a rom-com film, probably starring Jennifer Aniston or Cameron Diaz or Drew Barrymore - you know, the queens of rom-coms. From the outset, Peyton is an interesting character - she runs a hook-up website where she spends most of her day looking a dick pics to help match people to their ideal hook-ups. That on it's own is hilarious to read about, especially when you get commentary from her family and friends. Then add in Elliot's reaction to Peyton's reveal that she is, in fact, the owner of the hook-up site that he signed up for, and you've got you're self a fun storyline. Elliot's story grounds the entire book with it's more serious undertone, but at the same time it's filled with lots of laughs as well. Together, these two have a lot of chemistry, and it's fun to read the development of their relationship. I've read a good number of Emma Hart books (although I still have so many to get to), and I really like how she writes her characters and romances, and this book was no exception. If you're a fan of romance reads, this is a book you'll definitely enjoy. While you don't have to, I really do recommend reading The Upside of Being Single first as it serves as a great introduction to these characters. Whichever book you start with, you're sure to enjoy Peyton's story and want to immediately start on Chloe's in The Dating Experiment (which I'm going to do the moment this review is posted). |
