AUTHOR: Emma Hart GENRE: NA Romance PAGES: 209 RELEASED: 1 December 2020 SERIES: The Bookworm's Guide #2 SYNOPSIS: What I expected on Saturday morning: Books. What I got on Saturday morning: my ex-best friend and first crush in front of me. Let it be known that I, Holley Stuart, do not give a single rat’s behind about pro baseball’s star pitcher Sebastian Stone. I definitely don’t care that he’s standing in my bookstore. Nor do I care that he seems to have forgotten about the last time we saw each other—senior prom, when he both humiliated me and broke my heart, albeit unknowingly. Now, he needs a date to his sister’s wedding. Don’t ask me how I ended up being it, because I have no idea. But that’s the least of my problems. His grandfather is adamant we’re dating, and Seb isn’t in a hurry to convince him otherwise, so I have no choice but to go along with it. The problem? The only thing I’ve ever faked is… well, you know. I’ve definitely never faked my feelings for someone. And judging by the way I feel whenever Seb looks at me, it doesn’t look like I’m starting now. An introverted bookworm who's ideal Friday night is Netflix and reading? Sign me the hell up!
No matter what Holley says, she is definitely NOT over getting her heart totally shattered by her best friend Sebastian at prom 8 years ago, even though he didn't know just how much he broke her heart. She hasn't spoken to him at all since that night, but now, a famous baseball player, he's back in White Peaks after an injury puts an end to his season. Sebastian is keen to rekindle their friendship and hopefully get the chance to finally explain what happened on prom night. But Holley is determined to shut him out, that's until Sebastian gets her to be his date to his sister's wedding. It's already an effort and a half for Holley, who's curiosity to learn the truth about prom night is what gets her there, but when Sebastian's grandfather thinks they're dating, Holley begins to regret abandoning her couch and book for the event. When both finally but their cards on the table about prom night, it opens a can of worms that Holley has wanted to keep close for a long time. Hanging out with these bookworms is SO fun! So far, I've definitely related to Holley to most, except with the whole 'in love with my high school best friend who unknowingly broke my heart' thing. She is such a fun and passionately bookish character, and just like with Kinsley in book one, I desperately want to be her bestie! Despite their relationship having been non-existence for eight years, you could instantly feel the connection Holley and Sebastian had, so it was great to be able to watch them reconnect throughout the book. I'm a sucker for a friends-to-lovers story, so I really enjoyed their story and the build-up to their inevitable romance. It'll be fun to see their story continue in the next book alongside the previous stories we've followed. But also, bring on the epicness that is sure to be Saylor's story! This book totally reaffirmed the need for a grandparents spin-off book! Like seriously, the crazy shenanigans that these oldies get up to is hilarious and while I can't wait to see more of them in the next book, I'd adore a whole book taking place in the retirement home with their ducks, love of The Price Is Right, and trying to sneak in alcohol. Just like the first book, this is a super fun and cute bookish romance that will really appeal to fellow booknerds who are suckers for romance reads. With a relatable booknerd and her gorgeous ex-bestie/crush, what's not to love! |
